Reasons Why The Pokémon Series Will Always Be My Favorite
Pokémon Sun And Moon have jut been released and getting everyone in a flap. As a bona fide nerd since birth. One thing embedded in my DNA, is a love for video games. Being able to vicariously enjoy a different world through story lines and characters in video games is something that I will enjoy for my entire life.
When I was a kid growing up in the 90s the major gaming consoles that were available included early versions of Nintendo, Sega, Dreamcast, and PlayStation. At the time gaming consoles seemed relatively expensive compared to now. Having the latest consoles plus video games seemed more like a luxury than an open option for entertainment/hobby purposes.
I grew up with siblings so spending money on video games was not my parents main priority. While me, my brothers, and even my father enjoyed playing video games, I was far more interested than they were. A few hours a day or two games in sports was good enough for them. For me, I loved playing RPGs that included story lines with a long life span.
Keeping the latter in mind, Nintendo provided RPGs for me that I could not refuse. Most notably the Pokémon series was the perfect fit for my gaming desires. Every morning before getting on the bus for school I watched the anime. I watched as Ash, Misty, and Brock would go on adventures as Pokémon trainers. In a sense I felt a little jealous because I wanted to go on adventures in real life (especially since they were in the same age bracket as me).
This is the life outside of the real world that Pokémon games and Nintendo has given me for the majority of my life. The first console I was able to have as my own was a Game Boy and the first game I asked for was Pokémon Blue. I perceived having the two as a responsibility that I could be in control of. It was up to me to train my Pokémon every day in order for them to become strong enough for battles.
I didn’t have to share the Game Boy or my saved file with my siblings. What I built throughout my Pokémon journeys through every version of the Pokémon games (even up to the current Pokémon Sun and Moon) has been sublime to me.
Over the years most of my real life friends have come from the mutual love we have with Pokémon. Now that I am of adult age, not only am I experiencing the new journeys in-game on a daily basis, I have a plethora of other Pokémon trainers (or Pokémon Masters if they so choose to believe in their skills that much). No matter where we are in the world, the one thing that we can all come together with is the journey we are on.
With the new release of Pokémon Sun and Moon, trainers all around the world are spending countless hours embarking on a new generation of Pokémon. While this is mostly said about every new generation of Pokémon games, I truly believe that generation 7 is the greatest video game series of all time. The graphics and storyline (from what I know so far) are more realistic than any other Pokémon game in history!
For 20 years the Pokémon Company and Nintendo have provided countless hours of joy and exploring via the world of Pokémon. I truly believe that there is never an end to Pokémon! No matter how old I get, I will always play Pokémon games as long as the Pokémon Company and Nintendo produces them. In the future (and I mean a few years, not tomorrow), when we are ready, me and my girlfriend will have some ducklings and they will be able to enjoy Pokémon as much as we have.
